Eulogy
Editorially opened to the public in September 2013: a calm, unusually well-made place to draft prose, leave comments, and argue about a sentence without email. Writers who used it loved it with an intensity out of all proportion to its size, which was the problem. It closed on 30 May 2014, less than a year old, for want of enough of them. The team went to Vox Media.
Lessons for the living
Craft earns devotion from a small audience. Devotion from a small audience does not pay the hosting bill.
